Unwrapping presents Holiday morning

I'm Dreaming of a Tranquil Christmas

Most holiday mornings are anything but calm and organized. But you can go a long way towards encouraging a peaceful, hassle-free, and memorable Christmas morning with these tips.
  • Preplan breakfast the night before. Set up the coffee maker and set out cups. Assemble a coffee cake or breakfast casserole to pop in the oven while gifts are being unwrapped. Or at least set out the pancake mix and griddle for a quick turn from gifts to food. A banana or cut fruit will help tide over the hungry little ones while the festivities are winding down.
  • Wrap an oversized lidless box to use as a garbage receptacle on Christmas morning. The festive decor won't ruin your photos and the lack of garbage strewn around the Christmas tree will make for better photos.
  • Stock up on batteries for all those battery-powered toys. Plug in a power strip and start charging new toys right away. They'll be ready to play with after all the gifts are unwrapped.
  • Assemble a Christmas morning emergency kit including:
    • Scissors for cutting off tags and labels
    • Hand-held can opener which is perfect for opening hard plastic or clam packaging
    • Screw drivers, including Phillips and flatheads as well as an Allen wrench
    • Extra chargers
    • Permanent marker for labeling toys
    • Ziplock bags for small parts
    • A manila envelope for instruction manuals and registration paperwork
    • Extra garbage bags
  • Offer each child a laundry basket to transport their new gifts to their room.
