Giving Tuesday a Great Opportunity to Support Local Organizations

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a way to encourage people around the world to come together through generosity in all its forms by sharing acts of kindness and giving their voice, time, money, goods, and advocacy to support communities and causes. There are so many worthy organizations doing great work in our area, but we wanted to highlight a few of our favorites in case you’re looking for a new opportunity to make an impact:
- Pantry 279: Originally started by 10 Girl Scouts, this food pantry now serves over 800 families a month and runs a large “Elf Dispatch” Christmas gift program. In addition to monetary donations they’re always looking for volunteers to do hands-on community service.
- Teachers Warehouse: Serves the educational and creative needs of children by obtaining donated supplies and equipment from businesses and individuals and distributing them free to teachers for use in schools operating under the authority of publicly-elected school boards in Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, and Owen counties.
- Blackhawk Blessings: Feeds the future of Orange County by providing food-insecure school children with food to take home for the weekend during the school year.
We’d love to hear how you’re supporting organizations this Giving Tuesday. Let us know on our social media networks (@MySmithville on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter).
