Most holiday mornings are anything but calm and organized. But you can go a long way towards encouraging a peaceful, hassle-free, and memorable Christmas morning with these tips.
Preplan breakfast the night before. Set up the coffee maker and set out cups. Assemble a coffee cake or breakfast casserole to pop in the oven while gifts are being unwrapped. Or at least set out the pancake mix and griddle for a quick turn from gifts to food. A banana or cut fruit will help tide over the hungry little ones while the festivities are winding down.
Wrap an oversized lidless box to use as a garbage receptacle on Christmas morning. The festive decor won't ruin your photos and the lack of garbage strewn around the Christmas tree will make for better photos.
Stock up on batteries for all those battery-powered toys. Plug in a power strip and start charging new toys right away. They'll be ready to play with after all the gifts are unwrapped.
Assemble a Christmas morning emergency kit including:
Scissors for cutting off tags and labels
Hand-held can opener which is perfect for opening hard plastic or clam packaging
Screw drivers, including Phillips and flatheads as well as an Allen wrench
Permanent marker for labeling toys
Ziplock bags for small parts
A manila envelope for instruction manuals and registration paperwork
Extra garbage bags
Offer each child a laundry basket to transport their new gifts to their room.
