FAQs
We do not expect the eclipse itself to have any impact on Smithville’s Fiber or DSL service. However, we do expect public Wi-Fi hotspots and cellular connections to become congested due to the large number of visitors trying to access available networks.
In the event cellular networks do become congested, you can connect your cell phone to your home or business Wi-Fi and enable Wi-Fi calling.
Live streaming bandwidth and social media are expected to burden certain network services during the day. Especially from 1:40 to around 3:40 p.m., slow-loading internet may be possible.
While Smithville is unable to improve the performance of your cellular connection, you can make phone calls over your Wi-Fi. Check out our Smithville Smart video to learn how our Fiber Internet compares to a cellular connection.
Smithville has planned for network support to ensure ongoing operations and availability.

In anticipation of this day, Smithville has throttled open access points to ensure that essential functions like email, SMS, and calling are available. Try connecting again later.
Out of an abundance of caution and concern for everyone’s safety, parking at our facility is not available to the public. We will assist Monroe County, the town of Ellettsville and others by providing a helipad if emergency transport services are needed. No access to Smithville Communications’ property will be offered. Please do not park, camp, or otherwise trespass on Smithville property. Areas will be marked with signs and yellow caution tape.
