The Rural Call Completion Problem

On occasion, Smithville voice customers may experience problems with calls not connecting, calls that are low quality, or calls that display incorrect caller ID.
Calls in our area are most often affected due to different call carriers in different locations trying to minimize their connection costs.
This issue is occurring across the country impacting residences and businesses in more rural parts of the United States. In fact, the FCC adopted two orders implementing the Improving Rural Call Quality and Reliability Act to address the current challenges.

Q: What should I do if I experience this situation?
A: There are four actions you can take.
- First, ask the person trying to call you for the name of their long-distance provider or wireless provider and file an informal complaint with the FCC against their call provider. You may complete the FCC’s online form or call 888-225-5322 and provide the following information.
– The caller’s number
– The called number
– The date and time the attempted calls were made - Then call us at 800-742-4084 and press 1 when directed. Speak with one of our helpful technical support specialists and let us know you are experiencing problems with long distance calling. We will also report the call completion problem to the FCC.
- File a complaint with your state legislators in Washington DC. We are offering a convenient list of legislators below.
- Ask the person trying to call you to also file a complaint with both the FCC

Add Enhanced Voicemail ($7.99/mo) to your line by contacting our Customer Service Team at (800) 742-4084. Note: First time users will need to obtain a temporary PIN#/Password prior to activating Voicemail service.
